What We’re Looking For
Kidlits Webzine wants your best writing, be it stories or poetry. Good writing requires a lot of hard work. First you have to think up a great idea. Then you have to write the first draft. Then you have to edit the mistakes. At this point you should let someone else read it and let you know what they think. Listen to them well and do another rewrite if the story needs it. Then submit it to Kidlits Webzine!
We ask that you not send us stories or poems about characters that other writers have created like Superman or Harry Potter. Instead we want to see your own creativity at work. This webzine is about the wonderful worlds and characters that you can create on your own.
We won’t publish work with swearing in it. That type of writing isn’t appropriate for children. Nor will we publish excessive violence for violence sake. We know that if you are writing about a war, some violence is acceptable, but the story or poem should be more about the characters than how many people are killed.
Most importantly, we look for stories and poems you had fun creating and want to share with kids just like you.
Submitting Your Work
Before submitting to Kidlits Webzine, there are two simple rules to follow.
1. You must let your parent know you intend to submit your work. 2. You must use a parent or guardian’s email to submit your work.
Once you follow those rules submitting is as easy as e-mailing your story to submissions@kidlitszine.com. The title of your e-mail should include your first initial, last name, grade in school, state you live in and the title of your story. So if your name is John Smith, you’re in the fifth grade, you live in Maine and wrote a story called “The Unfuzzy Bunny” the title of your e-mail would look like this:
J. Smith Grade 5 Maine “The Unfuzzy Bunny”
Your story should be cut and pasted into the body of the e-mail. Please be sure your story’s title is the first line in the body. If you’re unsure what to do, please get your parent or guardian to help.
Submitting to Dot’s Challenge (Fall Frenzy)
All the same rules as above apply, however, the challenge words for Fall Frenzy should be bolded in the body of your e-mail. Also your e-mail title should also include “Fall Frenzy.” An example would be:
Fall Frenzy J. Smith Grade 5 Maine “The Fuzzy Pumpkins”
Response Time
Our editors will read all the stories that come in. You will hear back from them in 2 to 6 weeks. We wish we could publish everyone that sends in a story but space does not allow us to. If for some reason your story is not selected, it doesn’t mean it’s a bad story. It simply means the space in the webzine is full. You will be notified by e-mail if your story is not selected.
If Your Story is Selected for Publication
If we choose your story for the national edition of Kidlits Webzine, we will send an e-mail to let you know. Included with the e-mail will be a permission slip for your parent to sign which represents your agreement to let us publish your story under our Creative Commons License. Each issue is protected by an:
Attribution Non-Commercial No Derivatives License.
This license is the most restrictive of the Creative Commons Licenses, allowing redistribution. This license allows others to copy the webzine, say for classes, and share it with others as long as they mention the webzine and you, but they can’t change the works in any way or use them commercially. We believe that every writer has something to teach their fellow writer so we strongly believe in the Creative Commons License to facilitate that level of sharing.
If you or your parent or guardian would like more information on the theory behind the Creative Commons License please watch the informational video below. You can ignore the segment on registering your work. By submitting your work and returning a signed permission slip, you agree to let Kidlits Webzine register it for you through the Creative Commons license mentioned above.
We look forward to seeing your works! Good Luck!
